RVA’s Ultimate Holiday Party Guide 2024

Happy Holidays, Richmonders! Winter has officially crashed autumn’s party and set up camp for the season. As your social calendar packs tighter than a tin of holiday cookies, let me play elf and guide you to the soirées actually worth your time. Whether you’re bouncing between The Fan and Shockoe or staying snug in the West End, this list has something to deck your nights. For your convenience (and sanity), it’s all sorted by dress code. Now go forth and sleigh this season!

Formal:

Commonwealth Club Holiday Party

  • Commonwealth never lets me down—good times guaranteed. Whether it’s for a meal in the Dining Room or a drink at the Blue Bar, they get it just right. Shout out to Aaron! My favorite bartender in all of RVA. When he’s not at CC, you can enjoy his bartending talents at Brickwood BBQ—no special access required! The food at CC is already good as it is, but they really bring out all the stops at this party. The ribs are to die for! Their seafood options are endless from lox to oysters to cocktail shrimps. The rockfish was particularly good this season. If you’re planning to go this year, unfortunately, it’s already passed. Don’t worry—you can always try again next year!

707 Red Button Club Party

  • If your wardrobe lacks a suit from 707, can it truly be considered complete? 707 hosts this party seasonally to promote the newest line, but the best and most extravagant one is their holiday party. Previously hosted at venues such as Hermitage Country Club, Jefferson Hotel, and Commonwealth Club. This event is perfect for those who have an appreciation for craftsmanship and connecting with like-minded individuals. If you’re able to secure an invite, be sure to dress your best as this is the fashion event at the end of the day. Don’t forget to get your 707 suit dry-cleaned in advance!

Hilton Hotel NYE Celebration

  • Okay, I’ll admit. I haven’t been to this one personally so don’t shoot the messenger. Many of my family and friends have gone. I’ve agreed to go twice, but something always got in the way. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if I’m not destined to go. Even though I have yet to have the pleasure of attending myself, I’ve heard nothing but great things. The grapevine says the street is the atmosphere is elevated and refined, appealing to a sophisticated audience while remaining approachable and not overly formal. The theme this year is casino night so come ready to gamble! For those who live downtown, please arrange your ride accordingly as this venue is all the way out in Short Pump.

Semi-Formal:

Harry’s Gatsby Gala

  • For those who don’t know, Harry’s is my favorite bar in Richmond. Especially the second floor with all those bookshelves. Ugh, such a vibe. Keep in mind that this is a New Year’s Eve party. This is where I celebrated my New Year’s Eve last year, and had a blast. And not just because the roaring ‘20s is one of my favorite decades. Carter Snipes, Harry’s co-owner, has put incredible thought into the decor and aesthetic… For example, when you walk in there is a little password mirror that will give you your password before entering the modern speakeasy. Super innovative! Check it out along with their extensive options of bourbon.

District 5 Holiday Party

  • You read that right. I said District 5. I can’t bring myself to call it by its new name. It pains me. And we all know what I’m talking about so let’s move on. If you’re looking for a more laid-back vibe with a cocktail attire, this is the ideal party for you. Think of it as your chance to shine without the pressure—cocktail attire, familiar faces, and good vibes all night. But remember, you’ll need an invite, so start buttering up to Kate and Ellie now. Shout out to Dave’s charcuterie board. I’m excited to see what you chalk up this year, Brother.

Casual:

Naughty or Nice Party

  • Another Harry’s event. You guys know I’m basically a resident there at this point. This party embraces effortless elegance—no need for formal wear. But do present yourself well. You’re at Harry’s afterall. Maybe get a little spicy outfit to go with the theme. The sky’s the limit. The event will be featuring DJ Duffy & DJ Carter B. I’d also like to take this moment to remind you: please tip your bartenders. They’re grinding hard during the holidays to make sure your night is unforgettable. Make their night worth it too.

2024 Holiday Soirée

  • Hosted by the Network Incubator and Sir D. This one is for those who wanna network through the jingle bells. Two bird, one stone. My Capricorn Rising is shaking. This year, the soirée will be hosted at Black Olive on the 12th! I would say the dress code is… Smart Cocktail. Make sure you get your business cards in line before you go. Remember: your business card is someone’s first impression of you.

Cheers to making unforgettable memories this holiday season—here’s to RVA and all the festivities it has to offer!
