2023 Fashion Trends That Can Stay

I realized in my first post, I lowkey came off as a hater. Which to be fair, I was. So here are the trends that I enjoyed in 2023:

  1. Red! Red! Red!
Ugh, Taylor’s impact. If you know me at all, you know that my go-to colors are usually earth tone. But when I do decide to wear colors, I usually gravitate towards oranges, yellows, and reds. Red was my go-to color last year when I wasn’t in my usual nude uniform and I intend to keep it that way this year.

  2. Denim Reconstructed

I don’t wear denims often, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the creativity that stems from them. Denim has one of the riches history in fashion. It’s the one fabric that seems to bring everyone together. Seeing the different designers playing around with the textiles this past year has been an absolute pleasure. The one designer who did this best in 2023 was Blumarine. Also, check out my student designer’s collection who won the Urban Academy Fashion Designer Competition last year: DIMEZ. She also dabbled in denim reconstruction in her last collection this past fall.

3. Minimalism & Clean Girl Aesthetic
We live in a time where both 2000’s logomania and minimalism can exist simultaneously. I like to call that ~~~balance~~~. In today’s economy though, it can be financially limiting to feed into logomania. The minimal and clean girl aesthetic isn’t only about wearing little to no makeup with a slick back bun. It’s also about owning one of each item that you actually use on a daily basis rather than contributing to wasteful consumerism.

4. Nightgown Inspired Slip Dresses

One thing about me— I love a nap. But I also love a party. With slip dresses, I can go from a party and crawl right into bed afterwards. To those of you who are cringing at the fact that I may be crawling in bed with the same germs that clung onto me when I was out and about… sush. I don’t wanna hear it. I have a feeling some of you have been in dirtier places. The point is… these lingerie-esque slip dresses are not only cute, but they are insanely comfortable. Especially for days when bottomless brunch is followed by a mid-day nap.

5. Preppy
Let’s be honest. Preppy will never go out of style. And I may be bias in saying that for obvious reasons. But this year, there was something in the air with preppy aesthetic that really turned the fashion houses on its feet. With the rise of the ‘stealth wealth’ trend and shows like Succession as well as the reboot of Gossip Girl, we’ve never seen preppy done like this. The public has added their own flare and individuality to the traditionally uniformed aesthetic.

6. Friendship Bracelets

2010 rave kandis walked so Eras Tour friendship bracelets could run. Again, let’s be honest. Friendship bracelets have never truly been out of style as long as girlhood exists. Even I got a friendship bracelet at the end of 2023 with a guy friend of mine. Instead of a traditional charm bracelet, however, we opted for a malachite crystal bracelets. And that is just so… 2023 of us. Also, please look at this gorgeous David Yurman malachite ring. I’m obsessed. If you have a crush on me and don’t know where to start this Valentine’s Day. Here’s a good place to start ;-)

Later this week, we will discuss what gifts to get your special someone this V-Day according to their love language. Stay tuned.
