When The Streets Outshine The Runway: NYFW F/W 2024 Recap
Good evening, pretty people!
I trust I’ve given you enough time on this lovely Sunday to recover from your this morning’s hangover or jet lag from NYFW. It’s been a chaotic week. Thank you for letting me be a part of your nightly read. So let me just jump right into it and say what we are all thinking: the street fashion this season was the show stopper. I was so overwhelmed by the slayage on the streets that I can barely remember half the runway looks. A big note to make here is this season’s streetwear is very much steer towards a more minimalistic look. This is a direct reflection of our country’s economic state. Even with the looks that had bright colors or were logo manic, they still carried an undertone of minimalism. Here are a few notable looks:
Just because we are in the mids of a job hiring crisis doesn’t mean we shouldn’t at least play pretend and look the part. Shown above are some of my favorite work attire deconstructed looks.
This is the season of the trench coats. It was actually overwhelming to see how many NYFW attendees were rocking their trench coats. I mean, it was really hard for me to just choose 8 photos when the options were endless. We are taking it back to the 50’s and I have never been happier.
I call this the “my jacket is eating me” look. I will absolutely be incorporating oversized outerwears into my wardrobe this coming Fall and Winter. It’s given classic Audrey with a modern comfort twist.
Can’t forget the all white everything! Bretman Rock absolutely slayed this season btw. Mwah! Chef’s kiss!
Cutest smart casual looks. Or as I like to call it: preppy with an edge. (IYKYK)
Black on black!
The subtle yet concerning rise of gingham this season. Don’t get me wrong. I am not a gingham hater. But it has to be done correctly in order for it not to look tacky. Otherwise, you just look like the Walmart version of Dorothy. I reckon next fashion, we will be seeing a lot more gingham.
There is nothing I love more than a good tea length silhouette and this season gave us a taste of that. I hope we will see more of this in upcoming lines because it’s just so elegant and sophisticated.
Plaid, you will always be famous. You are the one pattern that will never be out of style.
Next post, we will get into the actual runway looks. You can look forward to brands like Retrofête, Tory Burch, and Tommy Hilfiger.
